Why the big deal about Late Night Talk Shows?

All 3 networks average about 2 to 3 million viewers. Since when is that ratings gold? Beth O shows get just as many people.

Just wait until you see the ratings that Howchie and his 60 bagillion worshippers bring to late night.

Late night TV has lost a lot of appeal since cable came on the scene. Used to be we only had 3 channels to choose from and we were thankful. Johnny Carson was the only late night talk show.

He's just another one of BigFoot's 20 or so managers. I'm the only one who got BF any money though.

Not a one of them have any idea what THSS is about and they really don't know about his decline and his changing attitudes towards using the intellectually challenged on the show.

    Stay tuned? You're funny.

Dawgs is my only source of THSS news.

If you care to make a clip, I'd appreciate it.

Randy was in Barre to do a photo shoot with BF on Tuesday. This was in connection with the low budget movie "Speak of the Devil".

BF thinks he's going to get a million dollars from this project. Let's begin the countdown to when he calls THSS claiming that he was ripped off by the movie's producer and his manager.

Why the big deal about late night talk shows? As another poster said, they used to be a unifying event. People watched Carson, and you could enjoy it and share stories. Even early Letterman was very unifying as he was shaking things up and was just plain fun (vs now where he is going through the motions like Wiggy).

However a critical difference back then is the shows had a looser vibe (I do not think they pre-interviewed and scripted the way they do today) and they would pull guests that were interesting (versus were celebrities). Most shows now have guests who have nothing to say. In addition, the truly good guests can be hard to get because they do not want to deal with the BS.

If you want an example of what made these shows great, watch Graham Norton. He lets guests interact and is clever enough to keep it going.

I never saw the appeal of late night shows either. I was too young for the heyday of Carson and I used to watch Leno only on Mondays for the funny headlines skit. Letterman never really made me laugh at all. I even attended a taping of his show and although it was a fun experience, he really wasn't that funny. Howard on late night TV wouldn't be any good either. He's not going to be able to ask the usual anal, lesbian, cock size, squirting questions he does now. So it would be the same boring crap as everyone else.

Late night shows are like anything else you buy today. They are a copy of a copy of the original. Carson was a little more innocent/sophisticated- David Letterman was for the boomers. Leno for just milqtoast entertainment/ conan for gen x and on and on. There is no boundaries to cross, nothing left to conquer. The focus and goal is different. Years ago they wanted to give you a great show and make money. Today any fucken thing that makes money will do. You asked why are late show so important or written about in the press, the same is true about morning shows- maybe they can target a market segment and sell ads to them better than during prime time or during the day.

Cash Flow + not that expensive to produce compared to scripted shows = Happy Executives.

Carson's Tonight Show reportedly represented 17-18% of NBCs profits. He had a right to be a difficult asshole.
