Huntington Beach officer-involved shooting leaves 1 dead



HUNTINGTON BEACH – An officer-involved shooting occurred in Huntington Beach on Thursday afternoon, police said, but the condition of the person who was shot was not immediately known.

The shooting reportedly took place just before 5 p.m. near Warner Avenue and Hoskins Lane.
Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitch O'Brien said the officer was not injured.

Authorities have not released details of the shooting or what led to the confrontation. Police have blocked several streets in the area, and a tarp covered what appeared to be a body at the scene.

There were no reports of anyone being transported from the scene by ambulance, according to MetroNet, a fire dispatch service.
A nearby resident said she heard four gunshots and a helicopter overhead ordering a man to stay on the ground. Dylan Sorensen, who ran out her residence after hearing the gunfire, also said she saw officers trying to revive a man who appeared to have been shot.

Investigators from the Orange County Sheriff's Department are on the scene, O'Brien said.
The Sheriff's Department routinely investigates officer-involved shootings that occur in Huntington Beach.
