Voyager 1 days away from leaving the Solar System

Fuck yes after 35 years and 11 billion miles.. Voyager 1 is about to become the first man made object to leave the solar system

To think what the world would be like if in those 35 years man kind would have spent all that war money on science how much cooler the world would be today.. (think real life holo deck with porn)

    but anyway fucking great accomplishment

They had a report on this several months ago only to have to walk it back since Voyager kept getting sunlight further out than scientists had theorized.

yes it has been reported a few times... i am sure leaving the solar system is not as cut and dry as one would think..

they have seen dramatic drop in cosmic rays from the sun and an increase galactic cosmic rays so it has all but left at this point

11 billion fucking miles is mind blowing

What is even more mind blowing is that it has 25.69 trillion miles more to go before it'd even reach Proxima Centauri. Which is 2335.5x more than it has traveled in 35 yrs.

...to boldly go where no man or man made object has ever gone. brovo nasa. stop paying for wars and ignoring research and development in science and medicine. id rather have my tax money spent on science and medical research than war.

War often brings along with it great leaps in technology and medicine. Nothing better to drive innovation than trying to kill the enemy or save your people....

...instead of editing my post i want to add the wright brothers werent looking to kill anybody, henry for wasnt thinking of his car for war, internet was made for exchange of information not for cyber war. so at the end of the day its all about you and what you think cause thats what you are and if thats what you are, guess what youre gonna contribute.

It won't be leaving the universe for another 14,000 years depending on your definition of our universe. When stars form they form in clusters of thousands or even millions. When our sun formed it left something called an 'Oort cloud'. It won't be for thousands of years before Voyager 1 leaves that cloud. Still though it is an amazing accomplishment. Amazing what we can accomplish when we aren't busy blowing each other up and killing each other for corporate profits.

Believe me so am I. Why we didn't just line up the oil tankers and suck the ground dry is beyond me. Probably just another pitfall of modern warfare where its wrong to plunder the conquered like was once acceptable.

Though I do believe some innovations in emergency trauma treatment have come out of the Iraq and Afghan Wars.

Ummm wasn't the internet a DoD project instituted in part to communicate/coordinate an attack response if the Soviets decided to fry us?

I guess an argument could be made for advancements that have been made in artificial limbs. Still don't think any of the Mideast wars have been worth it. Especilly since now they are saying we have more energy reserves in natural gas and shale than the rest of the world.
