I didn't know who Tom Cotter was so I had to google him (only seen 2 episodes of AGT)

This guy has performed on Leno, Craig Kilborn, Comedy Central etc.. and does voiceover work for NBC, MTV, McD's, Pepsi etc. He gets tons of high profile work... why is he even on AGT? I thought the show is for unknowns/amateurs.

I'm guessing it's a bit of a fail-safe: include some moderately talented performers who are relatively unknown, just in case the talent pool sucks...which it does (apparently--I don't watch).

In the age of the internet, this is not a very prudent strategy.
