Don Buchwald SPLITS from LA partner firm

"EXCLUSIVE: Exactly two years after Don Buchwald & Assoc. partnered with Michael McConnell and Ben Press’ Fortitude, the two talent agencies are going their separate ways."

Some interesting posts to the article: http://www.deadline.com/2013/04/don-...ter-two-years/

Rare photo of Buchwald without a hat:

At least the split didn't result in Don filing a lawsuit - yet.

Not a lot of currently relevant Hollywood names on the rosters of clients when they announced the partnership in 2011 - http://www.deadline.com/2011/05/howa...ith-fortitude/

"Fortitude has lit and talent clients that include Joss Stone, Angela Lansbury, Peter Iliff, Julia Jones, Crispin Glover, Daisy Lowe, Mario Van Peebles, Elle Macpherson, Cymphonique Miller, Cybill Shepherd, Jordan Bridges, Sean Patrick Flanery, Loren Dean, Lolita Davidovich, Romeo Miller and Kathleen Quinlan.

DB&A, which is 35 years old, has a talent list that includes Ethan Suplee, Ralph Macchio, Paz de la Huerta, Norman Reedus, Fairuza Balk, Kathleen Turner and Shannen Doherty. Don Buchwald remains CEO/President, and continues to be the exclusive agent for Stern, who just re-upped at Sirius XM."

Interesting comment under the article. I like how they call Buchwald soap operas and guest stars.

interesting that Norman Reedus was never on the show... I would think with this connection and the fact that howig loves the walking dead he would be an obvious choice.

so basically the only happening celeb the two firms have/had was Howard? If i were Don I would call it off too. Why spread the Howard fees across four people when Howard is there specifically for Don? Howard looks like the only producing asset the group had.

even though walking dead is a big hit, its on AMC after the other bigger networks turned it down. i bet it really doesn't pull in much money; AMC's sponsors are probably lamer than Howard's.

And if I recall, one of the reasons Frank Darabont left the show was AMC's insistence that budgets be capped at around $350,000 an episode. If those numbers are accurate, production costs are paid for in a single commercial break.

WD airs an average of 11.7 (ok 12) episodes per year, or it isn't earning money for AMC 67% of the year. that's not a great record compared to shows that run all year long, or for 6 months a year.

They have Mad Men going while it's on hiatus and I imagine the ad rates are a little smaller, but still comparable, especially with its lower budget.

As for tomorrow, I could track down DVD sales figures and ancillary profits, but I don't see the point in that. Viewing it as anything but a cash cow is kinda ridiculous.
