Meh. The real tragedy is that he is so wrapped up in himself that he doesn't realize how searching, finding and contacting complete strangers (his birth family) can ruin their lives. Obviously, there were valid reasons why they chose to put him up for adoption and never sought him out.

The other possibility is that his birth mother was hoping that he would seek her out. She knew that she'd given up a baby but the possibility existed that the adoptive parents didn't tell Mack that he was adopted. Given the fact that she wanted a better life for her child than she was able to give him, I think we can surmise that she isn't a selfish person. That could be why she never sought him out. I get that this theory detracts from the Mack call out theme of the thread, but hey, it's a pretty realistic scenario.

Well, nobody ever accused that moron of being the brightest bulb in the batch. His parents have gone 40 years without giving him a second thought, the best outcome will be when he does find them, and they reject him for the second time. For sure he's going to back to hitting the crack pipe and heroin needle.

Not really realistic. The birth mother would have sought him out long ago, not now that she's probably in her mid to late 60's. Why not leave these people alone and let them enjoy their golden years without some selfish asshole trying to ruin their lives again?

No adoptive mother is ever truly selfish however when an adoptee reaches out and makes contact, it often throws the mother back to that traumatic time in her life. It may have taken her years to get over that trauma and with one phone call or letter, it is as raw as the day she signed the papers. Most adoptees seeks guidance and counseling before taking that step because of the ramifications.
