I'm with you. And I agree with Heinous Mark, by the time you scrape all the food off and get enough crud off of the dish to put it in the dishwasher, you might as well take the extra five seconds and finish the job by hand.

And if you do buy a dishwasher, for god's sake get one that has a stainless interior, not white plastic. Those plastic ones stink and harbor mildew more than the stainless ones.

My deal is I won't put dishes etc. in the dishwasher with chunks of food and stuff on them. So by the times I've washed all that shit off I just say fuck it and hand wash them. The exceptions are when I am feeling super lazy or more often, when my hands are fucked up. Like in Winter every year, my hands get really dry to the point of my fingertips cracking and splitting (yes, even with lotions) and hot soapy water stings like a mofo...even with gloves on.

Our dishes are visibly clean by the time we load the dishwasher. I can't stand the thought of those food particles swirling around all of my dishes. I do think they get the dishes more sanitary because the water gets heated to almost boiling.

Our current dishwasher is a little over 2 years old. It has the stainless interior and was very expensive but we've had it repaired twice for leaks. I've also had to repair the door pulley system myself and I've had to order plastic parts because the original equipment plastic is starting to crumble. You'd think that they would use plastic that is able to take high heat, moisture and humidity.
