Just watched the ESPN 30 for 30 about Jim Valvano

and the 1983 NC State championship run. They knocked it out of the park again.

I think it might be my new favorite of the 30 for 30 series.

Also reminded me of how awesome that Louisville-Houston semi-final game was that year. Gotta try to find it online.

I don't think it's on demand yet, but they will probably be running it all week.

Yea, it had parts of that speech in it along with parts of a speech he gave at NC State the month before the ESPY show at the the 10-year reunion of the championship team.

They addressed that in the show. One of the NCAA investigators stated that the only violations they found during the investigation were that the players were selling their tickets to games and also selling their equipment for extra cash. They also stated Valvano and NC State didn't push academics as much as they should have, but they never found that they actually doctored grades. This was all confirmed not just by the NCAA's investigation, but by 5 other investigative bodies that were involved.

Wow! You're saying the documentary that puts Valvano is a great light says he did nothing wrong?! What a shock!

No, I'm saying the NCAA didn't find him guilty of any wrongdoing.

I tend to believe the investigative body as opposed to some guy that wrote a tell all book.

John Calipari's done it, Jim Calhoun's done it, Pete Carroll did it at USC with the football program. They break all kinds of rules, then bail when the sanctions come down
