    Gotta love Clematis though.

This grows by the gazebo in a small front yard that is on a slope, but I needed something to look at while sitting there, burning a fatty with a beer in hand. So I decided a stream and small pond would be just the perfect thing.
So I went and bought a liner, pump and hose, and some pond liner for the stream. Pumps it up the hill. Runs back down. Also makes the splashy water sounds if ya put the stones in there just right! (those are all lilacs on the left)

A little gardening hint here for those of you with tulips. You know the "damn..." feeling you get when they're not blooming anymore?
Simple solution. Dig up the bulbs and stick them in the fridge (don't let them freeze) for 2-3 weeks and replant them.

They'll think winter has come and gone and it's time to bloom again. You can do this over and over. Even in winter in a pot in a sunny window.

Do lilies need a lot of sun? I'd like to try some in my backyard, but the place that seems right for them from a "landscape design" point of view is in the shade for a good part of the day...

No, I was staying on topic. Trying to help people that maybe are considering planting a garden this spring.
You however came in as usual, and with you owning no real estate to improve, attempt to derail the thread.

The usual goal of Scmoopy everybody.

They don't need full sun. Those tigers and rubrums of mine probably get maybe 6-8 hours a day. But the amount of sunlight has a definite effect on the size and number of the blooms.

Hmmm... I guess I need to pay more attention to the amount of sun the yard gets. If I do end up getting them, what's the right time to plant them?

Here's another thing to consider too. A couple years ago although they were growing just fine, I was wanting bigger flowers and more of them, but I have a white mulberry tree that was shading a lot of the yard.
I trimmed a couple limbs and it gave them an easy 2-3 hours a day more.
    I got the desired results.

One thing to remember though. Lilies will grow almost anywhere and are very easy to move and replant. And they spread! You would have to try and kill them. Very hardy plant.

That sounds like a good plant for me to try, then. This will be my first full spring/summer in my own house, and I probably need something that's hard to screw up.

The problem with the trees that shade my yard is that they're all on my neighbors' properties, so I can't just start hacking at limbs all willy-nilly...
