I'm going to a gun show tomorrow. What should I buy?

I currently don't own a gun but I'm looking to get prepared for the end of the world. I've got about $1000 budget.

What an odd question, depends on what you want it for, what your usage will be, what is comfortable for you etc. you're gonna lose that grand quick with no idea what you're looking for.

If it's for personal protection in your house get a handgun or a shotgun. Have you even shot a gun before? You might want to know how to use a gun before you go buy one.

It's for home protection. I've shot skeet numerous times but I don't have much experience with rifles or hand guns.

Three firearms choices for under $1000 for beginner prepper/survivalists

The Ruger 10/22 (top), Remington 870 pump action shotgun and Remington 700 bolt action rifle (Leon Pantenburg photos)

Stick with a pump action shotgun. There is something psychological that stops people in their tracks when they hear a shotgun racking a shell.

10/22 is a great little gun. I don't think it's ever jammed once on me, and I can't say that for any other semi-auto 22 I've fired. They're just a solid dependable brand that's reasonably priced

I put a Ram-Line Pistol Grip Folding Rifle Stock on mine for the hell of it. It's always been reliable.
