One of the most fundamental common sense thing people know about NK/SK is how dangerous and difficult it is to get out/in.

They'd likely head north into China rather than South. That border is so heavily mined and fortified that its unlikely many would get thru, especially during a conflict where the pseudo-Maginot Line is also a front line for combat. That's why China wants NK to stfu so they don't have a refugee problem.

China wants a buffer between them and Japan; it's significant that China is concerned they have no control over N. Korea. they don't.

I wouldn't say they were useless .. Koreans are known to be extremely hard workers that frown on accepting charity from the government (Unlike the U.S.'s neighbors to the immediate South who encourage such nonsense)

they're not useless on a personal level; they're useless because they've been enslaved by a socialist for decades. they have few or no skills. hell, they don't even know what electricity is-they only see it for a few hours a month.

Yea, the prospect of all that " skilled labor " sounds good. Cause they need more farmers and concentration camp builders in South Korea.
