The other day when I was emptying my pocket of change I found a 1940 penny. I didn't think coins that old were still circulating.

People get their homes broken into and the stupid thugs steal the coin collection. I guess the thugs don't have a rare coin fence so the end up spending the coins for face value. I've gotten several semi-collectable coins from change.

I hate to think of what happens to the old coins or bills that don't match modern currency. Probably tossed.

But my Grandma gave me some various servers and kettle like things made out of what looks like copper and silver years ago, and told me to hang on to 'em. They're up in the attic and may well be older than my Bug.

When I was around 11yrs old I found a roman coin down In my school fields... My School was built on a old Roman fort and when they were digging for the foundations they found many artifacts that are still on show in the school library.. Anyway my coin is of Emperor Flavius Claudius Julius Constantius (Constantine II) 316 -340 AD ( OLDER THEN THE BIBLE!!!)... The coin is only worth around $20 due to how many there are ( like pennies nowadays).. what's your oldest thing you own?

I have some books and postcards from the turn of the 20th century. I had some Edison wax cylinders and a phonograph to play them on, but I no longer have custody of those. I collect 78 rpm records(1910's-1950's), chalkware (1930's-1960's), Jadeite (1940's), and a lot of other stuff produced around the early and middle parts of the 20th century.

FTM, when I read "wax cylinders," I immediately thought of this video for some reason. I bet you have already seen it.

Here are a few that I really like.

1957 RCA shf-3 hifi console. I have 2 of these. This one maple and the other mahogany.


1935 Grunow 681 AM/shortwave console radio unrestored. Not the best performer, but cool deco design.


1936 Grunow 1291 "Shirley Temple" console radio.


I have a bunch more phonographs, console radios, and records - micro groove lps, singles, 78's, and vintage test equipment to work on them.

Groovy stuff, and tubes make a nice warm sound. I got an old console radio/turntable in the attic I need to get down and see if it still works...

No, it belonged to my stepfather, nothing too high end. Last time I was in the attic I fell between the joists, so I'm not in a hurry to go back up there
