sorry, I didnt read the OP. Back in the day, Romans would bury bags of coins for safe keeping. Many didn't come back from wars so they were lost for ages until greedy hordes of treasure hunters sweep the area with their metal detectors. They then sell each coin from $20.00 upwards to a couple of hundred and make a fortune.
I have a coin almost like it in my desk drawer.

I bought it at an antique mall from a booth that is just overflowing with stuff from all over the world. It was listed as an "old hat" on the price tag, so I bought it and then after looking at it, it became clear that it was a really old hat from the way it looks on the inside. I just started googling stuff like "silver wire hat" and after a pretty long search, this one page on traditional Bavarian costumes came up.
