Actually, it began when Mel dared to make movie "the Passion of the Christ" against the wishes of the Jews- having to use his own money to fiance it. Then it was a hit, and they were werent happy.

That's a good point. POTC made over $612 million on a budget of $25 million! That incites some serious jealousy in Hollywood, especially when NO ONE in the movie establishment wanted that movie to succeed.
