95% of all places down here have free refills anyways. You buy a cup and the dispensers are right there for ya.

This this this a thousand times this. Being a New Yorker, I must be living in paradise, because there's nothing else to worry about other than soda.

This dumbass chose to focus on one, singular product and you just fucking know at least 50 people in his inner circle and/or legal counsel told him it was fucking stupid and still persisted with it.

I dunno, it seems that New York City residents aren't the obesity problem necessarily. Sure, there are fat-asses there. . . . but go about 50 miles out of the city to a Wal-Mart.

THAT'S where the fatties are in the majority. FFS.

i'm so happy to hear that....bloomberg is an insufferable little shit/twit who assumes he can regulate people's behavior....let him stick to important issues.

the amazing thing is that howard all of a sudden is into every governmental rule and regulation...after all, it's for the "little people" it certainly doesn't affect him.

The amount of time and resources this stupid idiot spent on this dumb law is the real crime. Not to mention the lesbian lady they are grooming to replace him won't win. I think New Yorkers had enough. Im not a Rudy Guiliani fan, but if he jumped into the race he would have no problem winning. Mayor Bloomberg brings me back to the Dinkins days, except for excreting sweat, this guy excretes shitty ideas.

the majority of yuppies in manhattan seem fitness obsessed, but I think nanny is gay and this is how he comes out. he is demonstrating the same characteristics of yuppie couples in the city (straight and gay) that make the rest of us here want to throw them into the Hudson: he thinks that by virtue of having a relationship with someone else he knows better than others and is divinely inspired and qualified to dictate how everyone should live. he has become uber PC while conveniently forgetting that his company singularly made it possible for the credit swap and mortgage crises to happen. also interesting that OWS ignores his involvement.

the problem with mayor dracula is that nobody setting up to run against her has the bottomless pit budget nanny is providing her, and the untainted past. i think she will get elected because the other candidates are unbelievably lame and they have no platform other than not being Bloomberg.

Amurica is getting fat everywhere now.

What does a soda size-ban do, anyways? Does Bloomie have a quantity ban, too? Can't people just get extra drinks? What about re-fills?

Seems like a waste of time.

Obese people usually give birth to obese children.

Nobody puts that in the equation.

It's like Idiocracy where the stupid, overweight people reproduce more rapidly then the smarter, skinnier people. We're seeing more of this everyday.

Does Rudy's guy Joe Lhota have a shot?

"Lhota is a Republican in a heavily Democratic city. He’s fiscally conservative, but he is pro-choice and favors marriage equality. He said he would perform a same-sex marriage if asked."

Sounds like a good old fashioned republican that doesn't give a crap about the issues that kill dummy social conservatives.

I'm a little surprised by his reaction as well. Fifteen years ago he would have told Bloomberg to fuck off for suggesting such a dumb idea. Howard really has bought into the "We're paying for it through our healthcare system" notion. I remember when he said on the air a few years ago that cigarettes should be outlawed because of the healthcare costs. This is an odd statement coming form someone who has consistently called for the legalization of pot and most other drugs. What does he want to do? Create a black market for cigarettes to match the one that exists for narcotics? Guess what? Not only will you have to incur huge law enforcement costs, most people who want to smoke will still get cigarettes and still get all the diseases associated with them. You'll still have to cover their healthcare. Who are you helping?

legalise hooking and make it tax deductible as charity.

(when I am in charge: The only way to have equality in society is to have free booze, hookers and weed. )

The NAACP's New York state branch and the Hispanic Federation have joined beverage makers and sellers in trying to stop the rule from taking effect March 12. With a hearing set Wednesday, critics are attacking what they call an inconsistent and undemocratic regulation, while city officials and health experts defend it as a pioneering and proper move to fight obesity.

The issue is complex for the minority advocates, especially given obesity rates that are higher than average among blacks and Hispanics, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control. The groups say in court papers they're concerned about the discrepancy, but the soda rule will unduly harm minority businesses and "freedom of choice in low-income communities."

Barring a scandal, Christine Quinn will be the next mayor.

The news was saying if you wanted six sugars, you would have to put it in yourself. The shop coudn't put it in for you.

    It was utterly retarded.
