Doesn't look good for Sam Simon

Following up on a thread earlier this week...

He just told Lieberman that he has metastasized colon cancer which has spread to liver, kidneys, stomach, lymph nodes and maybe brain. He said the doctors wouldn't even use the word cure-- that he may have 3-6 months and sometimes miracles happen. It has been 5 months since diagnosis. The whole interview sounded like a eulogy-- what will his legacy be, etc. It felt like a farewell...

I know he is not that popular here, but he has done great work for animals, real work, not like others who claim to love animoes.

He said nice things about Howard too...damn.

I recommend you try to catch it on replay or perhaps someone can post it.

Heard everything EXCEPT what he said the illness was so thanks for posting. It really did sound bad. How does something get so advanced without a person going to the doctor??

He said he had been feeling sick for a few years and tried to self-treat by taking anti-depressants and trying to raise his testosterone. He finally went to the doctor and was originally misdiagnosed, so that when he finally got the tight diagnosis it was far gone. It started with nausea.

You might want to re-think that.

I guess if you're going to get a cancer that can't be treated it may as well be a quick killer. I'd rather die quickly than slow and painfully.
Sam Simon ‏@simonsam I SWIM, fuckwad. RT: @sleepinwarrior You burn more fuel flying to your Hawaiian getaways than most people with a car use in a year.

Colon cancer is not a quick killer. It's agonizing.

Spreading to all those other systems is though. If I were Sam I'd stop everything save for the pain treatment and get out quick.

Also I'll throw in that this is why euthanasia needs to be discussed in this nation.

Still, it gives a person to tie up loose ends, say their good-byes, etc. Lots of people lose someone in the blink of an eye and don't get those good-byes.

When you lose someone to that type of a catastrophic illness, you have to try to find something for which you can be thankful. Those last moments are precious.

Couldn't agree more. Lost my dad recently and I had a few days with him at the end. Watched the Eagles and Turner Classic Movies, fed him watermelon and held his hand. It was brutal but I couldn't be more glad that I didn't just get a phone call saying he was gone.

It's also one of the most preventable cancers. Just get that colonoscopy when you're supposed to.
