He didn't want a fourth judge to take air time and attention away from him.
The new judges are younger that Howard and will point out his lack of revelance and understanding of the youth market.
There is no promotion or build-up from NBC like last year and any promo that's coming will focus on the new hires.
The New Orleans auditions were a disaster, Howard was booed.

And most importantly -

He wants to distance himself from this year so that if it tanks he can say it's because they didn't do things the way he suggested.

I read somewhere yesterday, may have been EW, that even American Idol ratings are tanking. This certainly does not bode well for Stern's lil dog and pony show.

For once, I actually do wish the power of twitter would kick in. i wish HE DID have as many fans as he says he does, and they would all politely tweet him their appreciation for keeping AGT talk off the Stern Radio Show.

AGT could be the first one of these shows to get the axe. Since it's a summer show its ad rates aren't as high as Idol, The Voice etc so it's revenue is handicapped. Throw in the cost of Howard and the other judges, the costs of moving it to NYC and the lower ratings and all of a sudden this cash cow isn't producing like it used to. The producers were definitely making more money with Brandy, David Hasselhoff, Jerry Springer and higher ratings.
