I'd give him credit for not opening up federal lands for fracking. I haven't heard a good word about fracking.

I heard plenty of good words about fracking, one of them being jobs. But let's leave the fracking out of this and talk about all the natural gas and shale oil that makes New York State almost equal to Saudia Arabia in terms of potential energy that the Obama Administration won't let loose. But the whole point is that there is plenty of jobs that would be created if Obama would just get out of the way.

You didn't really expect our overlords to live with the consequences of their actions, did you?

That's for us, the little people, to do.

and why should they if they can get unemployment comp forever, right? (agreed to by both sides)

Fracking and LFTR will give us complete energy independence in under one decade. Not only that but the trillions we have spent in 'foreign aid' (aka bribes) to Middle Eastern dictators for oil access will dry up overnight. People in this country foolishly believe that our use of oil is relatively cheap compared to the rest of the world. Sure it is if you only look at gas prices. But when you factor in how much it costs us to get access to that oil, billions to the Saudis every year, billions to Egypt every year, and countless billions fighting proxy wars to free up that oil. We probably spend more per capita on oil and gas than any other country on a consumer level.

On federal lands? There's been talk about drilling for natural resources on federal lands ever since Teddy Roosevelt created federal parks. It's doubtful that's ever going to happen.

This thread is a perfect microcosm of todays politics in America, complete with the problems.

Look at how quickly people here have gone from being angry about the initial story (congress getting raises when everyone else is getting screwed) to some sidetrack straw an argument. That's what you get when people get as polarized as they are. You get infighting and distraction from the real problem.

Don't fight each other... Fight them.
The above is strictly my humble opinion.

Well Captain Evenhanded, do they not want to work or are they incentivized not to work thanks to government programs? People are people. Cut back on the 99 weeks of unemployment, the explosion of people claiming disability and especially welfare and food stamps and you'll quickly see how many people will want to work. Not that there will be any jobs for them to have with Obama in office - 5 years in and real unemployment is over 12%.

Obama is quickly running out of other people's money so all this stuff will straighten out on it's own.
