Congressional bonuses in a time of cuts

A CNN analysis of thousands of pages of Congressional expense reports shows that in the months leading up to the fiscal cliff (and potential, sharp budget cuts), nearly a quarter of the lawmakers in the House of Representatives gave their own office staff bonuses.

That money is itemized as “Other Compensation” in the more than 2000-page report.
Only a handful of members of Congress gave us statements defending the bonuses last quarter.
Rep. Mike Thompson, D-CA, wrote, “have a hard working, dedicated team… and I want to pay a salary that reflects their service.”

Yea because the people who lost their jobs because of these cock suckers were lazy assholes...

Fuck them all.. Rep. Dem.... all of them are fucking cheating pieces of shit...

anyone who thinks other wise is a fucking fool

i don't think we're complaining about "the cuts" because they're not really cuts. we're just cutting the percentage of the increases by (i think 3%) which is nothing. i have no problem with across the board cuts but what barack is doing is cutting certain programs that directly impact the public rather than cutting nonsensical pork. why did the TSA grant itself 50 million for new uniforms(they made sure it happened a day before the cuts take effect).

we could trim so much more...the sequester is the best thing tha's happened in years....unfortunately, it isn't enough. we're in alot of trouble, the debt and profligate spending isn't sustainable . hopefully, i will be gone by the time the house of cards collapses.

    oh i agree.
write a bill that cuts all the pork and make the guy veto it if he doesnt like it.
the problem is, all that pork was added to bills by congress, i dont feel they actually want it cut.
even the real fiscal conservatives dont want to take the blame and get voted out because they cut a large voting blocks goodies.
    we're screwed.

as for term limits, its worth a try. but again, congress will never vote for a bill that puts them out of office.
and it wouldnt be good for the country to lose great guys like rand paul and bernie sanders.
maybe we should blame ourselfs if we keep re-electing fools

i kinda wish they would take more time off from work. they cause more problems when they come into the office. they came to work in 2006 and decided that the USPS had to pre-fund their pension program 75 years in advance and now the USPS is broke.

Maybe if more people over 65 would retire it would make way for those at the bottom?

So the job growth and explosive economy of the 90s isn't something Clinton gets credit for (instead, attributing credit to the Republican-led Congress) but the joblessness of our current economy is Obama's, right?

    Got it.

Well the reason that Clinton doesn't deserve all the credit is that the first 2 years of his administration when he had control of both houses his big government policies put a damper on the economy. It was the Republican led Congress that led him to tack to the right and start getting the government out of the way allowing the economy to boom. Clinton and the economy were tremendously helped by the Peace Dividend brought about by the end of the Cold War in 1990 and the rapid rise of the the Internet Market Place - both of which Clinton had nothing to do with.

It was also the Clinton Administration's HUD run by my governor Andrew Cuomo that fought for and got implemented the Chris Dodd/Barney Frank bill forcing banks to start making non-collateral home loans that brought us the housing bubble burst. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Whereas for the last 5 years Obama has gotten everything he tried to get so he owns this economy. The man rides astride the media-government complex and no one stands in his way.

Silly thing, if Obama would just allow the Keystone Pipeline to be built and open up fracking on federal lands he could probably have gotten the deficit down to zero by the end of his term as well as creating 100,000s of real jobs.

One thing you have to hand Clinton, in 1994 when he realized the voters lost confidence in his ability to handle the economy he was wise enough to change course. Obama's hubris has blinded him.

    .
I'd give him credit for not opening up federal lands for fracking. I haven't heard a good word about fracking.

I heard plenty of good words about fracking, one of them being jobs. But let's leave the fracking out of this and talk about all the natural gas and shale oil that makes New York State almost equal to Saudia Arabia in terms of potential energy that the Obama Administration won't let loose. But the whole point is that there is plenty of jobs that would be created if Obama would just get out of the way.

It's funny how we elect people that have done nothing in their lives but run for office... And then wonder why things don't work.
The above is strictly my humble opinion.

A bigger issue is that we have these career politicians who only care about getting reelected and spend a ton of their time on selling people out though fundraisers.

There should be term limits. They should be limited to two terms as a Congressman and one term as a Senator.

As a former Hill staffer, I have no problem with this. The Members might be dicks, but most of the staff are extremely hard working and get paid peanuts. Though I only support the bonuses if they go to the right people (the people in their mid-late 20s and early 30s who desperately need the money).
