Should medical insurance pay for expensive hip surgery for a severely retarded kid?

He's had health issue after health issue since the day he was born... Many that would have ended his life, had modern medicine not intervened with significant effort & expense... And, I'm well aware of the many functions of our Human Anatomy.... You know, the Influenza Virus goes through some pretty impressive feats just to make its way into your blood stream. But, I'll bet dollars to donuts that you don't take THAT into consideration when you're cursing its existence as you park yourself in front of the toilet when you have the Flu.... Just because something is biologically complex, doesn't mean it should be kept alive at all costs ...I'm spiritual enough of a person to believe that it is plausible that some things & some people are put here on Earth to inspire others to achieve things they wouldn't have achieved on their own, otherwise ...But, at some point you cross the line and just start shitting on Mother Nature ... You gotta let nature take its course sometimes...

We intercede nature all the time for the benefit of humanity. All I can say is usually if an able-bodied person helps take care of a person with intellectual or physical challenges for a small length of time, a type of compassion roles over them and the able-bodied person will do what they can for the person in need. Spend some time with the kid. It might challenge you to change your thoughts on the subject.

I don't make these statements flippantly ... And, believe it or not, I was actually a weekly volunteer coach a Special Olympics softball team for a couple of years back in College.. So, I'm not a person that completely lacks compassion... But, I strongly believe that sometimes we give our own needs precedence over the true needs of the person we claim to be caring for..... Sometimes the thought of having someone we care about here at our side (even though they may be suffering and/or in pain) is easier to deal with than the thought of letting them go, forever.... In my opinion , there are aren't many acts that are more selfish than that

Isn't that the problem?? Everyone involved in this scenario is too afraid of being "mean" & saying what really needs to be said..WHY waste that kind of money on someone whose too brain damaged to appreciate the benefits of having repaired hip-sockets?

I work with a guy who has the same kid but worse, way worse, 24 hr diaper only says shit or dad beats himself up and and anyone around him if the tell him NO. He gets the fuckers teeth cleaned twice a year, each time it cost's tax payers $22000. 44 grand a year to clean someone's teeth that eats his own shit. It cost's the state 200 grand a year

I wish I knew why things happened the way they do, sometimes... I tend to have a real hard time processing statements like "God only gives us as much as we can handle".... But, for my own sanity I try to believe that there is always a 'purpose' behind everything we experience in life... Whatever we go through is by design, and we were meant to learn something from each occurrence... It may not necessarily be obviously to us at the this very moment, but at some point it'll make sense to us....
