Does changing your oil every 7500 miles count as a maintenance freak?

No, I don't believe so. No reason to change it more often though given the oil I use and use of the car. The Blackstone Labs oil analysis agrees with me as well. Any more often wouldn't make me a "freak"......just wasteful (IMO).

Flushing brake fluid and changing antifreeze every two years, changing fuel/transmission/air filters, lubing suspension joints and various cables/hinges/pivots, removing and touching up undercarriage corrosion every Spring, draining/changing differential/manual transmission/transfer case lube as required, packing bearings, rotate tires, inspect breaks and any other recommended maintenance on two cars, a pickup truck, riding lawn mower, tractor and assorted small engines does take a bit of time. Plus normal washing/waxing/cleaning. Does that qualify?

Proper oil level will make the car run better. Oil might have been low before the change.

I'm starting to understand why ill will towards your legs was offered in the past. Maybe, with luck, a wheelchair is still in your future.

That is certainly true. I check mine at least weekly......my car has the shittiest designed dipstick that I've ever encountered so it's a whole overnight process. Fuckers!

That phenomenon hasn't occurred for me. Just as valid as my oil change power boost though.

I'm no mechanic, but it could be that before you change your oil, the valves are getting just the tiniest bit sticky, and new lube gets them all happy again

As long as the level is fine it shouldn't matter much. Most places err on the cautious side with recommended change intervals.

I bought a '67 Cougar with 185k on it. Ran great! I went to change the oil and had to cut the filter off since it was seized in place. It took a few hours and the filter was HEAVY since it was packed solid with crap. I think it was original to the car. The owner never changed the filter......just kept the level up. Obviously not recommended.

2000 miles isn't so bad with newer cars because they run so much cleaner. (less carbon emissions) That's what dirties up your oil. It's also what puts wear on the parts since it's basically silicone. (dirt) Bottom line: The cleaner you keep it the longer it will last.
