Oil change = car running better. WTF?!?!

I changed the oil in my car yesterday evening and today, even though I know it's all in my head, I swear it feels zippier and more eager to rev than it did yesterday. I'm a maintenance freak so it's not like the engine was all sludged up (Mobil 1 every 7500 miles). Just weird.

What kind of car? There is a lot of confusion and worship of mobil1 that is unwarranted. Your particular engine may do better with conventional oil and a shorter interval.

I observed noticable temperature drops in air cooled motors with Mobil 1 and ran it in my Buick GN (street/strip) for years (along with a few other high HP cars) with zero oil related issues so I'm a loyal customer based on my own history. Royal Purple and AmsOil are great too but the added expense, for my use, isn't justified. My use is 90% highway and I drive in a "spirited" fashion, the engine is in proper tune with no issues. With non-synthetic I'd probably change at 5k since it's a turbo motor (another reason for synthetic).

Mobil1 was a group IV base stock back when you used it in your GN it is only groupIII(with a small amount of group IV) now unless you are using one of their more specialty formulas. Amsoil and RP remain mostly group IV. Today's mobil1 is still good, but their is much less difference between it and modern conventional oils compared to 12 or 15 years ago.

As for the difference in how your car runs, I'd consider an oil analysis. With your driving style and miles, I wouldn't expect a big difference to be noticed with just an oil change. If you have a small coolant or air leak it could be causing issues that would appear to get better with an oil change--oil analysis can shed light on the issue
