Austin has changed so much since I was there it's now third on my list...

Houston gets a bad rap... either Dawg doesn't know how to operate there or is just a big pussy. Yes, parts of it are extremely dangerous, but if you stay inside the northwest side of the 610 loop it's pretty awesome. Some day I think I plan to move back there.

Dallas is very pretentious and the credit card millionaire popped collar affliction crew is vibrant in the outskirts, but the uptown and Henderson area is legit. Its a good place to live.

San Antonio... the north side of town is livable but anything around the river walk or SA proper is shit.

So, that being said, the list is:

Houston
Dallas
Austin

San Antonio

Mesquite is about the extent of my experience with the area and that was back in the late 80's. It seemed decent enough for a bedroom community.

True... I recall one time we were at a bar outside of midtown called Sammy's... I was shitfaced and got separated from the pack and an "urban" fellow was leading me away from the bar, like "yeah the cabs are right over this way" toward some dark alley... luckily my friend rolled up in a cab right at that moment saying "get the fuck in this cab"...

Katrina really did a number on that place... the city is booming right now though.

Anyway... the point of the thread is Fort Worth.

I never thought much of the town until I was in a wedding there in 2008... the downtown area is fucking great. A good strip of bars all within walking distance of each other... you have the TCU crowd.

The Stockyards are a bit out of town, but the thing is you can plan your weekend around either downtown FW or the Stockyards. Either part of town can easily entertain for a weekend. And you can always spend a night at Billy Bobs.

Plus you have Joe T Garcias for dinner, or brunch. That place is legend Tex Mex.
