I wore a suit to an appearance in traffic court a few years back and pretty much everyone else that was there to fight a ticket were either dressed in jeans/t-shirt or a work uniform (coveralls and such). next time I went to fight a ticket I wore khakis and a golf shirt.

I went to my med school interview in khakis and sneakers..everyone else was in three piece suits and had friggin portfolios with them...felt like a complete loser/trailer trash...
