    Anyone here homebrew?

Just wondering if I'm the only homebrewer here?

Just ordered a new Bayou SP10, Vinator Bottle Clearner, and Wort Chiller this morning. Can't wait to start brewing outside.

Seems like a pain in the ass, though as a beer appreciator, I wonder if it saves money?

All depends what kind of brewing you're doing. All Grain can save you money, but you need more upfront. Extract brewing you don't need as much, and a "kit" can range from 20 to 60 dollars and normally yields 2 cases of beer.

I've had some "homebrews" that taste like regurgitated ass. How long does it take to perfect?

Not that it should be a concern in my home........but isn't the shelf life a fraction of store-bought?

If you go with an extract kit from a reputiable place (Northern Brewer, Austin Homebrew, etc) it should be good right from the get go. As long as proper sanitation measures were taken.

And shelf life shouldn't be an issue. Some folks bottle age their home brews for years.

One last batch of questions and I'll leave you be - 'cause I've considered this many times - how much time is involved to do this, and what would it actually save me per case? (a case of beer goes for $48, in Canada)

    TIA!

Even worse was some "home-brewed" wine. It was an awful experience, that tasted like thrown up grapes, and left me with a hangover that lasted 2 days.

A brew day for me normally lasts about 3 hours. That's getting water, steeping some grains (if needed) then adding extract plus a 60 minute boil. Then cooling the wort, pitching yeast and then let it be for about 2 weeks, then either bottle or do a secondary fermentation (I won't get too much into that)

    And for $48 dollars a case, I would imagine you'd save $10 or $15 a case.

I've made wine from a kit to. A cabernet sovereign kit was about $90 USD way easier to "brew" than beer, and was easily drinkable within 2 months. It's getting better with age though.

And a kit of wine = 30 bottles.

Are you using kegs? I haven't brewed in over 10 years, but sterilizing a ton of 12oz bottles and filling them was a major pain in the ass. If I ever do it again, I'm getting some kegs.
