Don't worry. It's my 3rd vehicle and I usually don't drive it to work. Today I was in the mood to take it. I should have taken the Optima.

The hoses that go into and out of the firewall are up top. I believe there is a leak in the heater core. My plan was to take off one hose and close the loop bypassing the heater core. At least this would get me home albeit with no heat. But this opening at the bottom is concerning me. I'm hoping it's just a valve to dispell the coolant that leaked but it was pissing out like crazy and I want to be sure.

I think it's the evaporator drain tube but I haven't worked on a Jeep in YEARS.

Found something about it on the Jeep forum. Sounds like the same problem you are having.

the coolant is pressurized so it would hiss out like crazy if there is a leak there. can't tell from the photo if its a hose or a panel that's leaking. if its a hose, electrical tape will seal it for a couple of hours.

Heater cores fucking SUCK to replace... It seems like they start with the core and build the Jeep around it.

Most all my jeep experience has been on the ZJ, and the XJ. I don't have much time in on a TJ but I'd bet the dash has to come out.

Yup. That's what I'm reading everywhere. 7 hours and that's if you're experienced. I may just concede heat for a while and put her away until summer.

One thing I will say, unless it's getting traded off soon make sure whoever does it is good. Nothing worse than a squeaky, rattling dash. Nothing.

I'd strongly consider having it done at a dealership.

Ugh. That will be at least a thousand bucks with labor. I don't care if it's noisy. It's a jeep. I pretty much beat the shit out of it anyway. Again, for now I'm just going to bypass the heater core and get it home. Then I have all the time in the world to figure it out.
