Our government will not let companies like BP, Exxon-Mobile, etc. build any new refineries so there are always shortages of fuel, hence high prices. That's not to say there are also shenanigans going on with oil speculators, OPEC and others controlling the prices but if there were more refineries we could process more oil and have a bigger supply of gas. Thank the environmentalist wackos for that. Same reason there are not any new nuclear plants in our country.
