If you go see one of these guys in concert, what exactly are they doing on stage? Aren't they just standing up there playing recordings of the music that they've programmed a computer to play?

See, I still don't know. Do these guys know anything about music or are they just computer programmers? Would one know what a major scale was or the key the song they were playing was in?

most of the newer laptop DJs are kinda lame in my opinion. Most of the older DJs learned using vinyl and can actually mix . As far as musical knowledge some are well schooled in music while others are just dudes that could spin . When I go see a DJ I'm not concerned if he knows what a major scale is , I'm concerned that he can rinse it the fuck out .good tune selection and tight mixes are what I'm hoping to hear .

that a pretty broad question man . There is thousands and thousands of DJs all with different backgrounds man . But for non fans of electronic music lets just say a fancy version of a wedding DJ will do .
