    Topic will be very subjective, I'm sure. There are songwriters that never performed a single note that had hits for tons of artists. They won't be mentioned, and of those that are, they will be the favorites of the poster themselves, regardless of any credibility with their music.

    So what qualifies as a good songwriter? Number of hits? Or great songs that YOU enjoy that others don't really care about?

    Some will argue that McCartney wasn't as prolific without Lennon. Different genre, but Barry Gibb had more hits in the 70s than most of these guys combined.

    Yeah. The question becomes, though... if someone had a ton of hits as a songwriter, does that make them great if you don't care for the music? That's when emotions take over.
