When I was in the cable biz, I got a disconnect order for a house in a really nice neighborhood. Their bill was $700. I was a little surprised but whatever. Come to find out, the daughter had her 80 year old father living with her and he racked up all those charges ordering porn. The next day I was sent back out to hook the cable up and take the cable box out of his room.

Not on that one. She had an unsecured wireless modem and it was one of her neighbors. We weren't sure which one it was so there wasn't much we could do other than put a password on her wifi for her.

I wouldn't say it was a common excuse but you have to take into consideration that the person was elderly and had no clue.

I don't think they hand out modems anymore that aren't secured.
