but fuck that mindset. it's their job. are you allowed to give shittier service if your patrons/customers/clients/patients don't give you EXTRA money for doing your job? fuck no. fuck wait staff and bartenders.

The system is flawed. When you tip at the end, the server has no idea if they're going to get tipped for better service. This should encourage better service but when someone gets burned on the tip enough times it turns into complacency or even disdain.

I also found that people that live outside of the tri-state area tip very poorly to no tip at all.

I usually tip a couple dollars over the 15%. And only tip in cash. When you charge the tip to the server it becomes taxable income.

Having worked in food services industry, it's a miserable industry, and nothing feels better than a nice tip. It makes your day.

Tip a couple of dollars up front after ordering the drinks and watch how fast they come back with your drinks. If that doesn't encourage them to serve you better then adjust the tip at the end accordingly.

Yeah, I actually always tip 20% - but honestly, I'm so sick and tired of hearing wait staff complain, complain complain about tips -- I really am just as likely to stay home & eat/drink. I mean, really? Who needs the headaches?
