    Synthetic motor oil vs conventional?

I'm getting my oil change today and the guy will want to up sell me to synthetic oil which costs alot more. Will it really make my car run better?

I switched last time around when I changed my own. I like it and will use again. Its been almost a year , light driver 5k miles oil looks fine now but ready to change.

Warning some get leaks from swapping since synthetic. Is different it may find a crease in your gaskets etc. My car had 160 k miles on regular oil and I got no leaks on the switch but heard it can happen.

If your car did not come with synthetic already don't waste your money on it; just keep getting oil changes every 2500-3000 miles. For a lot of newer cars they come with synthetic from the factory and it is worth the cost to keep putting synthetic in it. I have a 2012 Honda Pilot and they use some supposedly special zero weight synthetic oil but I can go about 8000 miles in between oil changes.

You only need to change the oil every 3k if you're using your car as a taxi, or pulling a trailer all the time. Otherwise, stick to whatever the manufacturer recommends, which is usually 5,000 miles.

I used to change my own oil with synthetic every 3000 miles despite the owners guide of my Honda stating to do it every 7500. With the advancements of auto tech the past couple of decades its a FACT that you can get away with regular oil and a 10,000 mile oil change....I heard some
    go 20,000

Hence I went 12 months with it but it looks ready for a change due to time not miles.

ya, this. oil never loses its viscosity anyway from what i read on the interwebs somewhere i think maybe, possibly. it just gets dirty.
i hate those quick change places & the hard up sell of every product you dont need at 10x the price... it sucks being smart

Yeah I dont like um but Im too lazy to change my own oil anymore. Im just always paranoid some punks gonna forget to tighten down the plug or some shit and my engine will seize.
Seriously, though, there is no fuckin need to change oil under 8-10,000 miles on new cars....if that.
As far as synthetic, I used it for a couple years but figured it wasnt worth the extra $, since Itd be too dirty long before it broke down
