Howard clearly didn't care if people like Hank lived or died as long as they provided good radio on the way to death. He even helped them move closer to death by fueling their addictions. It would be like one of us going to an AA meeting and passing around alcohol to see what they would do for our own personal amusement.

What Dr. Drew does may be really irresponsible. What Howard did was heartless. Both are wrong, but only one had even a slightest sliver of good intentions.
I listened to the Hank "memorial" less than a year ago again and they made a whole joke out of it. Hank's mother was on and they (the whole gang) could barely keep the jokes to a minimum and then of course they made Hank record messages to his fans posthumously like "Hey its me Hank, and I'm dead". Howard could've stopped his staff from playing shit like that, but they treated a sick little guy like a piece of shit.

I always thought Howard gave these people something to look forward to. Hey, I put 20-25k in Big Foot's pocket and been told I exploited him. To all those people, I say.

Hank wasn't long for this world, but Jeff Conway was? Hank was a raging alcoholic and Howard would have his staff liquor him up for the show. But hey, he was going to drink himself to death anyway so why not get a few laughs out of it while trying to speed up the process. It was the only responsible thing to do. Hank might have gotten help if he didn't get fame for being a drunken bafoon. But Howard gave him something more important than sobriety and life - fame.
