Actually Howard's exploitation of the weak minded and out right handicapped has been a rather cruel way to make a fortune and carreer. Don't get me wrong I'm a hypocrit too because my all time favs are beetle juice. Gary the retard. And hank. And of course big foot it is. But I didn't put them n the air and then give them nothing in return but a swift exit out the door because of my fear of germs.

I don't have a problem with Dr Drew's show. The people are able to consent. They have problems and feel for whatever reason they should share their problems with the world. Maybe their stories and ordeals inspire others, maybe they get inspiration for themselves. As is the case with any addicts, some recover, some don't. I don't blame Drew for "exploiting" them or failing them in any way. He makes a genuine effort to help them. If anything he bought some of these people a couple of extra years.

    You seem to hate everyone...

Did you ever stop to think of all the people who went on there and were helped?
In addition, how many everyday people who may have had problems in their own lives, watched the show and decided to to seek treatment?

Dr. Drew never glamorized these celebs and although I'm sure all of his motives weren't 100% altruistic, calling him "pure fucking evil" is just ignorant.

You have no idea what Dr Drew does with the money the show generates, nor do you know how much it generates ....You assume its a lot because that supports your flawed theory ...... The people who participate do get paid for allowing their recovery to be broadcast (Artie Lange was offered $200k to be on the show)..They are all also offered an extended private, live-in rehab (free of charge, and free from TV cameras) after the 21-day televised rehab ends ....... And, I'm not sure how many A.A. meetings you've been to, but of the dozens and dozens I've attended, not one has failed to pass the donation basket around the room... My A.A. big-book wasn't free, either

An integral part of recovery is "giving back"...sharing your story with others so that they may be able to identify with your experience(s), and consequently use that to propel their own recovery .... "Old Timers" are a invaluable asset, and offer a ton of insight & first hand experience to those new who are newly sober ...Without them sharing their personal failures & victories, the program suffers .... The concept is the same with this show

Robin's just pissed because of this. Funny how she likes him before the bomb is dropped.

I don't believe he glamorized them at all but I do believe that the show counts on the celebrities being trainwrecks in order for the ratings to come in. That's exploitation, regardless of what his motives might or might not be.

The fact that it generates any money makes his motives suspect.

And the people at home who point, laugh and ridicule the patients? Where's the benefit in that? And all the Internet memes that are created that have the same effect? The collateral, unnecessary damage it creates outweighs whatever benevolence he could hope to claim. Why not black out their faces and just focus on their stories?

Why the need to film them like exhibitions in a zoo as they barf all over the place, inflict harm on themselves and everyone with whom they come in contact?

If they were truly focused on helping the patients they would afford them at least a modicum of dignity and not memorialize the lowest moments in their life for the sake of some disingenuous and transparent notion of "helping them."

it doesn't fly. it reeks. of bullshit.

Totally agree with your point. However, robin claiming that dr Phil exploits weak people is especially hypocritical because she's about to go on a book tour touting the ultra vegan lifestyle, which is an effort to exploit people that are desperate to either be accepted, or to struggle with their weight/nutrition problems. Dr Phil at least has a degree. Robin has a microphone and a fake medical condition as experience.
The above is strictly my humble opinion.

She NEVER got over the very accurate 34 assessment. Fuck her. Drew is no more or less exploitative than Howard Allen.
