Now being an inoffensive host may seem like a job anybody can do, but it isn't. Being the host of American Idol is hard as a mother fucker -- at least to anybody else.

It's an artform. It's a delicate skill. You have to be great at live TV and at going off script when things go wrong. You have to be good with the contestants. You have to be good with the judges.

That's why Ryan Seacrest is hard to replace. That's a hard job. Only a handful of people can do it.
