Danica Patrick is without doubt THE most overhyped person in all of sports (and I use the term 'sports' very loosely when it comes to driving cars around in a circle). She has been handed every possible advantage in terms of team sponsorships, crews, equipment, etc... and with the exception of one win a few years ago (in Japan, maybe?) she's classically underachieved throughout her career.

Also, though I will give her a few points for good looks, she comes off as completely sexless and uninteresting. Her monotone delivery during interviews rivals Beth.

You know that thought has definitely crossed my mind. I have followed Nascar since my birth as have watched it go from being a blue collar event to the wine and cheese crowd. The racing has gotten so shitty in the last 10 years it is nearly unwatchable, I only watch like 8-10 races anymore. I seriously think like you said they are propping her up in order to try to bring in some new fans and a larger share of women. It's not like this is unheard of in Nascar, I mean I figured it wasn't any better then wrestling when Dale Jr. won the pepsi 400 at daytona following the daytona 500 in which is father died.

While it does require a certain amount of endurance and courage, calling it a sport is horseshit.

Sports require athleticism, hand/eye coordination, endurance and a fair amount of physical toughness.

Take a look at Tony Stewart and tell me he's an athlete.
Gene Haas, his partner in the race team, is in better shape.

I am a huge fan of open wheel racing, primarily F1 but I do follow Indy as well. Danica was a bottom middle of the pack runner at her best. She can be very quick when she is alone on the track and is able to move up in traffic with relative skill. However she cannot run in the front never has been able to and never will. I had such high hopes for her in the sport but she has just a shitty personality and she quickly became a token in the sport. She had some chops to begin with she just never developed. Katheryn Legg, now that is a woman that can drive. She is getting royally fucked over and will probably not even get a ride this year.
