The point is he had no ability to watch while engulfed in flames. He chose to stay and not surrender. He could have given up any time up until he pulled the trigger on him self. It's not the job of the police to put themselves in danger (make targets of themselves) to make his surrender easy. Fuck him, he backed himself into a corner.

LAPD may be different but I have to practically give a reach-around just to ping a cellphone. Besides if they had any kind of access to his device (if he had one) they would have been tracking him all along.

I just watched a documentary called "Murder by Proxy: How America Went Postal," and it reminds me of this case. The work environment can be so utterly toxic sometimes.
