I can see that but being in your 40s and 50s isn't what it was back in your father's days.
People could (and should) take care of themselves better so they can still do those kind
of sports in their later years.

yeah I hear that. I'll be 50 later this year and I've been exercising a lot just so I can try to maintain my strength for doing my job for another 10 years.

Not 2K. We did a 250 - 300 mile trip last weekend hunting, caught in blizzard, 2 out of 4 sleds had issues...........long long weekend. I think we averaged about 5MPH.

How they average those speeds in the weather is amazing.

It stayed in the 20's luckily........... Mclarren river lodge the first night. Flat light all the way in, lots of pushing and digging as we drove off the trail into sugar constantly. Picked up a few ptarmigan on the ride in, no caribou.

Left Sunday morning and the wind started blowing 60 - 80, more in the compressed valleys......fucking miserable. We ran into some caribou and my son grabbed his rifle......I started screaming at him, don't shoot that god damn animal, to young and stupid to realize we were in for a long day.

We had gear in case we had to spend the night on the trail........I'm glad we didn't use it. We stopped and talked about sheltering a few times.....had 3 moose in the trail ahead of us once, they were hating life as much as us and wouldn't leave the trail, that could have gone bad quickly.......getting in the trucks and heading home felt real good.
