I wasnt alive but were the Doors ever that popular as a band? I mean I thought they were always that cool fringe outcast rock band.

This...there seems to be a general hatred for bands that have a super loyal fan base, but are not universally accepted by the masses.....The dead being a good example...also springsteen

certain people 'get' that band and the rest of folks just get tired of hearing how great they are, simply because they don't 'get' it BWTFDIK

Springsteen was a much bigger success in terms of dollars I think, I mean they play a lot of his songs on the radio. But yeah, thanks for articulating my point. A lot of people have heard of the Grateful Dead but not ever heard a song.

I went U2 though Grateful Dead was very tempting..... I like some of both bands' work, but I just don't think they're in that league.

IDK, the dead used to get a ton of airplay here in NJ...I honestly didn't even think the rest of the country heard Bruce that much...I always considered him a local act

I guess they play his hits, the gay stuff nationwide...LOL

Aerosmith fucking blows. No idea why they're as popular as they are.

I don't get all the Grateful Dead hate. They're not my favorite band in the world, but I get why they have a following.

Every Grateful Dead fan is obviously a dirty irresponsible hippie and this upsets people.

Again, another band that had 2 or 3 good albums, then mailed it in for the last 30 years...lol
