As an American what is your opnion of the LAPD?

A friend of mine failed the Seattle PD psyche test yet passed the LAPD psyche test with no problems

When I was working in LA I met a lot of cops there at Nicks Cafe off Alameda in Chinatown. It's like an auxiliary station that serves excellent ham n eggs. They were a diverse group that bitched and moaned about their job politics like anyone else. Sure the department has assholes and misfits as does EVERY group but I appreciate what they do and wish there were more of them.

Last I read was LA city has about 70,000 gang members in over 400 gangs yet there are only about 10,000 officers.

LAPD will take anyone . . . especially minorities. They buy a lot of daytime TV airtime in SoCal in hopes that the people watching "Judge Mathis" will apply.

Don't live there so don't really care. I like to think there are plenty of good folks trying to do a good job. You only hear about the bad (typically).

i'll give you that; most of the contact i have with the LAPD is when they're getting sued in the civil system. if they policed their own, like they did back in the day, none of these problems would exist.

there's dudes at the sheriff's office makin' $200k a year pulling overtime on prison duty. plus everything else.

2 of theirs went down, and we spent $5M+ to kill the dude. meanwhile, 2 civilians go down pretty much every day, and nobody gives a fuck.
