As an American what is your opnion of the LAPD?

The LAPD has developed a distinct "us vs. them" mentality, and basically has turned into the biggest gang in town.

there's dudes at the sheriff's office makin' $200k a year pulling overtime on prison duty. plus everything else.

2 of theirs went down, and we spent $5M+ to kill the dude. meanwhile, 2 civilians go down pretty much every day, and nobody gives a fuck.

That is because the last couple of Governors - well, Gray Davis & now Jerry Brown - have really sold out the taxpayers of the State to the Unions. The teachers union was able to hand Arnold his manhood & they practically destroyed him when he had a special election to try to clean up some of the fraud in the unions. The unions really run the State now, and the democrats have a veto proof 2/3 majority in the legislature and assembly. It sucks.

this current police chief carved out an exception to the 30 day impound rule. if your car was to be impounded for 30 days, but you were an illegal alien, you could have your car back right away.

The standards are probably much lower than they used to be and they have to accept a certain number of Blacks, Women, Hispanics, Asian (they even really lowered the height requirement for them). It would be better if everyone was accepted on the same standards.

When I was working in LA I met a lot of cops there at Nicks Cafe off Alameda in Chinatown. It's like an auxiliary station that serves excellent ham n eggs. They were a diverse group that bitched and moaned about their job politics like anyone else. Sure the department has assholes and misfits as does EVERY group but I appreciate what they do and wish there were more of them.

Last I read was LA city has about 70,000 gang members in over 400 gangs yet there are only about 10,000 officers.
