I have a Woodchuck living in my backyard. He's hibernating now. He dug out a hole underneath by storage shed. The last time I saw him was late Fall. I'm pretty sure I have had some gophers on my property too. I put fresh mulch around the tree on my front yard. A few days later in the middle of the mulch some animal most likely a gopher dug out a hole. On another part of my lawn there was a hole so deep I twisted my ankle walking over it. I've also had several deer on my property. Never saw them but there were hoof prints right by front window. They like to eat the leaves on the shrubbery. With all the urban development animals are now forced to live on the grounds of housing developments.

Problem almost solved.....I'm going to ask Capt. Stubbing to have Issac make a toxic potion and feed it to Gopher!

If that don't work, I'm gonna smash the fucker with a pick axe!

we have a couple woodchucks (or are they groundhogs? i dunno) here, too. i've caught them eating some of the food i leave out for the animals here-- they are so funny and cute when they wobble away with their bubble butts. my littlest dog is always looking for them in their holes/homes... it's cute.

anyway, i've created an animal sanctuary here. we're on 2.2 acres and have a creek in the back. i throw out corn nuggets and black sunflower seeds and deer food (when in season, i get bulk apples) and plant clover. have 2 feeding stations. for the past couple of months i noticed one of the deer looked sickly and would come and eat at odd times of the day (they normally only are seen at dusk/dawn). the deer was always by himself and i called him (thought it was a her at first) my adopted daughter. sadly, on sunday morning my b/f found him dead near one of the feeding areas. my heart just broke. i felt so bad because i kept saying that i needed to feed the birds/deer/squirrels/etc. saturday but it was too late and i decided to wait until morning. he died that saturday night/sunday morning of whatever was making him ill i guess. i dunno. i'm still really upset about it. my b/f buried the deer right away (i just found out) because i didn't want any animals eating him. i just felt so bad for him b/c he seemed to be ostracized by the rest of the deer, most likely because they could sense he was sick. anyway... i wish i would have went out that night because i could have at least held him while he died... didn't want him to die alone, like the way he lived. i looked outside this morning at one of the feeding stations and it was so sad to see the food still there... but i saw 2 other deer stop by tonight and eat... so i'm glad they still have a place to come and feel safe. in a way, it made me happy to know the deer died a somewhat peaceful/clean death, and not being hit by a car or shot by some dumbass hunter. i felt privileged that he felt safe enough to die on our property.

anyway, sorry... i had to let that out. just been really sad about it this weekend. his little body looked so frail... i found it out it was a boy because when i went to go pay my respects i felt the horns starting to bulged out of his head. his fur was so soft. i actually kept some that fell off when my b/f moved the body. poor little guy.
