The machines end up smelling funny because you have to leave the doors open after using so the insides dry out instead of growing mold in little places. That's where the front end ones start to stink. On that giant rubber gasket on the front door.

    Thank you.

    That creates moldy gaskets

Laundry day is several times a week.
Yeah, the HE soap wont hurt anything...doing the opposite might (using the regular soap with a HE washer) - we use the pods so that our kids can do the laundry without making a huge mess in the laundry room. Laundry day is 5 - 7 times a week.

I imagined Micheal Douglas saying "Ancient Chinese secret, huh?" and then bashing that Chink's head with his baseball bat.

Finally, and this is the #1 thing .....

When done using it, leave the washer door open ! Closing the door will create that stink and will trap in moisture. It's the best way to keep it running and smelling clean.

I always leave it open but it hits the door to the laundry room so my wife won't do it. She does 90% of the laundry so the door is left closed most of the time. We run bleach through it once in a while and have bought that cleaner stuff too. That seems to help.
