Never gave a crap. I mix whites with colors.

If you don't wait until the water is in the wash, you're splashing all your detergent on the clothes on top...I think.

Yeah, the problem is a lot of washing machines (and dishwashers, for that matter) absolutely SUCK at cleaning your clothes...so the detergent manufacturers, leery that they might get blamed, have made their products more concentrated, which means if you use a ton of detergent (to compensate for your shitty washer/dishwasher), it can harm your fabrics/utensils.

There are fabric detergents that are great at protecting colors, but they SUCK at removing odors.

It's a trade-off, but yeah, most washers suck the color right out of your clothes.

Laundry day is several times a week.

HE detergent is fine to use in a regular machine, but if you insist on using regular liquid, try a closeout store like Big Lots. They usually have more regular than HE.

And try using borax instead of those Tide Boost pods. It's a lot cheaper and works better.

it can fade and sometimes depending on the detergent (if it is blue) stain your clothes. I still do it this way though. Actually I just fuck it on top of the clothes, don't bother using the area for it or under the stream.

too much laundry to care about doing it any other way. and I hear you about the frequency- can't even imagine with a little one

I could not agree more, after this breaks I am going back to a top loader.

Costco detergent is cheap and works great

When I did laundry, I would let it fill with 6" of water then put detergent in

I use the warm water setting, hot and cold mixed together, simply because it fills up twice as fast. I add the liquid detergent, let it mix and foam a minute or so, and start putting the clothes in. I learned the hard way that granular detergent sucks, and putting it in last REALLY sucks. Only use hot or cold if the clothing demands it.

Regardless of Cold or Hot, Front Loading washers require regular maintenance. Every 45 days I drain the filter. At the last load of wash ( say we do six or seven ) I use a wet sock that's going into the dryer to wipe out any excess water in the drums, the tumblers and most important, the rubber seal for the door. Finally, and this is the #1 thing .....

When done using it, leave the washer door open ! Closing the door will create that stink and will trap in moisture. It's the best way to keep it running and smelling clean.

lol. I've heard about this. But I've never been anywhere and looked at someone and went Their clothes are faded... they're doing laundry wrong.

Also? I fill with water first, then add detergent and then, once the cycle starts, I toss in the clothes. So long as you don't overload the washer, I don't think it really matters. (top-loading washers only)
This seems like you're using a lot more water that you need to because you're filling the machine without the volume of clothes in it.

I had my clothing stained blue a few times. generally i just run the wash a second time without adding more detergent to get the blue out. some of the products say the blue will come out if you soak in vinegar but i've never had to resort to it.
