He was pretty good, though I must plead ignorance since I havent listened to any Metallica in years. His death was the death of the band, thats for dang sure.

a bassist doesn't add a whole lot to a band like Metallica, Newstead filled in just fine, as has Trujillo, I suppose you consiser it death of the band because their music changed, but like Newstead said, "yeah we sell out, we sell out stadiums every night".

I see what you are saying. My comment was meant to be subjective. Im sure they have plenty of good stuff after Master....I just dont like it that much.

Ride the Lightning is my favorite, but I have enjoyed their newer stuff throughout the years.

I liked Cliff because he was a great fit with Metallica, but I do think that as far as musicianship, Jason is a better player. I like both the Burton, and Newsted Metallicas, not really so much the Trujillo era, but I did like Bob in Suicidal.
