The Great Shark Hunt is an awesome collection of his short stories from Rolling Stone and other magazines. It is a 'Must Have' if you're going to get into HST. I have re-read it a few times.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is his best book.
All of HST's shit is great.
OH SHIT! Jim Lahey looks just like Hunter S. Thompson.

"Ok, I'm going to need you to take some pills I have in the other room..."
The term ' a head full of Acid ' aptly describes my college life
There is not one loser in any of his books. I'd say Great Shark Hunt to see him at his prime. Generation of Swine is the most accessible. But legend of Lono, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hells Angels.
All these people are right. One of the greatest American authors. My favorites are F&L in Las Vegas, then Campaign Trail. His take on the political parties, and politicians in general, is hilarious, spot on, and miles ahead of his time
