I am Jewish, and agree with you completely. I was always fascinated by this odd, unfunny bit. As recently as a few years ago, a caller to the wrap-up show asked Booey how Howard could be half Jewish if both his parents seemed to be Jewish and he sheepishly said, "I really don't know," effectively giving a non-answer. I, too, believe Stern was embarrassed by his religion and attempting to be more popular by semi-denying his heritage.

You are over analyzing this. It's an obvious joke because it's impossible to be half Jewish. You are or are not Jewish.
