We've been in decline, really, since the early 90's (outside of that brief uptick with Clinton). I'm a conservative, but I'm not sure that Mitt Romney would have been all that much less "liberal" than Obama, to be honest with you. I think it's more comforting to demonize the Black, Islamic named boogeyman than to admit we nominated a rich mongoloid as our party's candidate while letting kooks and billionares take it over.
