    Sorry to hear the news, since I actually know who he is.

    Jeff Tedford, the recently fired coach of my Cal Bears, played QB for him at Fresno State in the early 80s.

    I believe Sweeney's son Kevin was Tedford's successor at QB.

    Tedford went back to Fresno and got his coaching career started under Sweeney, first as a volunteer assistant, then later as his offensive coordinator.

    Tedford later returned the favor by giving a scholarship to Beau Sweeney, Jim's grandson.

    But Beau never made it up the depth chart and transferred to Cornell.
