Critic slammed for calling Melissa McCarthy ‘tractor-sized’

With all the heat he received regarding Lena Dunham recently, Will Howard address this?

New York Observer critic Rex Reed broke the second of those rules this week when he called "Identity Thief" star Melissa McCarthy "tractor-sized" and her character a "humongous creep" in his pan of the comedy that lands in theaters this weekend.
As if that wasn't enough, Reed's review is riddled with even more weight-related insults, calling the Academy Award-nominated, 42-year-old mother of two a "hippo" and "a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success."
Oh no he didn't!
Not only did readers come to McCarthy's defense in the comments section of Reed's online article, but people took to Twitter to air their grievances against the seasoned, 74-year-old film critic:

She was actually pretty good in "Bridesmaids," but "Identity Theft" looks like typical modern Hollywood fluff comedy garbage. Like the kind of shit that would come from Adam Sandler that attracts the tards in droves.

Rotten Tomatoes currently has "Identity Theft" at a whopping 25%.

She's fat. You can't ride her to cut your lawn. She's a funny nice woman. She's not trying to be sexy, she is what she is. But please. If she is tractor size then Beth is balance beam size. Lets use her for the next Olympics.

MM has been around for awhile. And she wasn't this heavy. Very funny people say she is as funny as they get. We see the cute side but she has a naughty side too. She definitely needs to lose weight, but I'll bet you we see her around for a long time.

She was actually a lot funnier in small roles in previous movies and a TV series. It was more subtle.

Then she got the role of a fat chick on that comedy and she obviously let loose any inhibitions towards eating as "fat" was considered "funnier" in that context.

The trailer I saw of this new flick with Bateman was terribly slapstick violence and broad comedy. Meh. The idiot behind me was laughing out loud when she kicked him in the groin not once but twice...IN THE TRAILER!
